iTools Review

Chances are you have a smart phone or know someone who does. Half of the phones sold in the US are Samsung or Apple products.

Apple products by far have the worst required software. With Androids you can use Windows Explorer or the Mac equivalent to access the MicroSD card. With Apple products its required to have iTunes software installed even if you plan on using a third party software such as MediaMonkey.

I use an iPhone 4S at home and with my job I deploy company smart phones on a regular basis. Our company builds products for iPhones so we require all outward facing employees to have an iPhone 4 or greater in the off chance that they would meet with a customer. If any of you have used an iPhone or deployed them in mass quantities making sure things are backed up for warranty or upgrades are a must.

In my case employees will tell me that they have everything after I use iTunes to backup their old phone and iTunes to setup their new phone restoring the backup. Nine times out of ten they come back a few days later and they are missing something important. Luckily I have a backup on my computer. Unlucky for me I cant see whats in the backup.

This is where software like iTools comes in handy. iTools offers a slew of features. It covers everything from serial numbers, model numbers, and activation status to having the ability to verify installed applications, application versions, and even backing up those applications and settings. The features I use the most in a corporate environment are recovering media files such as pictures and videos and recovering contacts.

Overall the software offers very minimal settings and has a very clean interface as does the website does. It offers a handful of themes that change the color scheme and nothing else. The menus are straight forward and logically laid out.

The website is so minimal it doesnt even have a list of features or description of the software which can be seen here:

http://itools.hk/cms/webpage30.htm

My comprehensive list of features includes:

  • Create ringtones
  • Turn On/Off iTunes Auto Backup
  • Browse iTunes Backups
  • List installed applications with app size, file size, version number
  • Update installed applications
  • Backup settings for installed applications
  • View media on the device including music, ringtones, videos, podcasts, TV shows, and playlists
  • View camera roll and photos with the ability to delete or share to Twitter or Facebook
  • View, edit, delete, and export contacts
  • View and edit iOS desktop icons and sync the layout to your device
  • Browse the iOS file system with the ability to see default ringtones, critical system files, apps, and Jailbreak data if you have unlocked your device.
  • View real time iOS system logs and crash logs
  • Cleanup icon cache
  • Create OpenSSH tunnel from your PC to your iOS device

Its a small .exe file that has no other files with it in a .zip archive. Avast, Hitman Pro, and Malwarebytes AntiMalware all report that it is virus free.

Looking for Reviewers and Writers

I am looking for 2 free lance writers who just want to write about things that they already know about in their free time. A few things that you could write about include (as long as its all IT related):

  • Tutorials
  • How-Tos
  • Tips & Tricks
  • Software Reviews
  • Hardware Reviews

You will get full credit for the articles that you write as they will be written under your own screen name. The only requirement is 2 articles per week. Length is not important, content is.

You will have access to your personal PC-Babble email account. Using this account you will be free to setup software license giveaways and hardware reviews with vendors of your choosing.

Members here have seen that I have done work with Spyshelter, SandboxIE, Emsisoft, VMODA, Grado Labs, Brainwavz, Dunu Topsound, and Gorilla Ears just as some examples.

If you are interested in these opportunities please use the Contact Us Form and select writer opportunity from the drop down selection.

New PC-Babble Forum

In response to many of the user comments in our recent Bitdefender 2013 giveaway I have decided to implement the PC-Babble Forum feature.

There is a link to it in the navigation bar.

The forum will not require a separate login from PC-Babble.com Blog that you use here. Any time a user creates a login either here or on the forum they will have the ability to log in on the other site with the same credentials. I have done this to eliminate the need to manage 2 accounts.

Keep in mind it is a work in progress. I only spent a few hours on it. There will likely be some theme and mod changes coming in the near future. However, whats there is enough to get the user base started with their sharing and collaboration.

Happy posting!
